Last week, a strong, bipartisan majority of senators voted 75 to 23 to support the Biden-Brownback-Boxer Amendment, the only Iraq-related policy plan the Senate has adopted this year. The Biden-Brownback-Boxer Amendment calls for a political solution in Iraq based on a decentralized, federal system of government. Iowa's Senators Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin both voted for the amendment.

"Joe and I might be running for the nomination of two different parties, but we agree on one thing: the American people want progress in Iraq and this represents a viable way forward to stability and success," said Sen. Brownback. "Decentralizing power in Iraq offers the best chance for Iraqis to live in a peaceful, united country where they can resolve their differences. It is time to begin the political surge we desperately need to help stabilize Iraq so we can get our troops out of harm's way."

Brownback to Attend Wyoming GOP Forums

(Press Release) ALEXANDRIA, VA – U.S. Senator Sam Brownback, Republican candidate for president, will attend two presidential forums organized by the Wyoming Republican Party in Casper and Riverton this Saturday.

On Friday, Senator Brownback will talk about his unmatched record of leadership on pro-life and pro-family issues at an event hosted by the Wyoming Family Coalition.

Wyoming will hold county conventions on January 5, 2008, to select delegates to the national convention that will nominate the Republican Party's candidate. Wyoming's county convention process, unlike a primary or statewide caucuses, relies on precinct committee men and women to select the state's delegates to the national convention. Because many of these precinct committee men and women will attend one or both of the forums organized by the Wyoming Republican Party, the events offer an excellent opportunity for Senator Brownback to highlight his conservative credentials before a key grassroots audience.

Dr. Alveda King to Meet with Brownback Supporters

(Press Release) DES MOINES – The Brownback for President campaign today announced that the noted pro-life activist Dr. Alveda King, who has endorsed Senator Brownback for president, will meet with his supporters and hold a media availability this Friday, September 28.

Earlier this week, Dr. King was barred from speaking at Des Moines Roosevelt High School because principal Kathie Danielson said that while a discussion of civil rights was acceptable, Dr. King's planned remarks also included references to "morals."

"Quite a bit of [King's planned speech] does talk about civil rights, but there is a connection to morals and that's the part... " said Danielson. (Megan Hawkins, "Roosevelt cancels speech by King," Des Moines Register, 9/25/07)

"Defending the life of innocents is the most basic civil right, and I am proud to support Dr. Alveda King and her efforts on the pro-life issue, civil rights and helping people in need," said Senator Brownback.

As the daughter of the slain civil rights activist Rev. A.D. King and the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Alveda King has dedicated her life to pro-life causes and founded King for America, Inc., to "assist people in enriching their lives spiritually, professionally mentally and economically."

Brownback Touts Conservative Credentials in South Carolina

Brownback Takes a Break from Campaigning

(Chicago Tribune) - He may be near the bottom of the polls, but by one standard Republican presidential hopeful Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) may have trounced his rivals: He is taking a five-day August vacation. He plans no campaigning, no fundraising, no meetings.

"A vacation is somewhere we can go and spend time together with kids or as a couple and be a family," said Brownback's wife, Mary. "Not to go out and campaign. I wouldn't call that a vacation."
